WATCH/ICYMI: Auburn head baseball coach Butch Thompson goes yard on Audibles

On Episode 5 of Season 5, we chatted with the head baseball coach of the Auburn Tigers-and Aberdeen, MS native-Butch Thompson.

Thompson was influenced early on as a high school football player at Amory High School under legendary high school football coach Bobby Hall, and later by another legend in baseball at Itawamba Community College in Roy Cresap. But it was his time at Birmingham-Southern under the great Brian Shoop that had the greatest impact on him, both personally and on the baseball diamond.

After winning a national championship as an assistant with his mentor and friend Coach Shoop at Birmingham-Southern, Thompson was an assistant at stops that included Georgia, Auburn, and Mississippi State. And then in 2006, the “opportunity of a lifetime” for Thompson to lead the baseball program at Auburn.

Thompson’s time in Auburn is nothing short of rock solid. He’s led the Tigers to the program’s first trip to the College World Series in 22 years in 2019 and taking the team back for the second time in three postseasons in 2022. Auburn was one of six programs to appear in two of three College World Series from 2019-22, and Thompson became one of five active SEC coaches to take their program to a pair of College World Series in a three-year span. From Aberdeen to Omaha, Thompson is one of college baseball’s brightest stars, joined us for this one-on-one you don’t wanna miss.
