COLUMBIA, S.C. – Daniel Lloyd struck out the side in the top of the 9th inning, as South Carolina (34-21) held on for a come-from-behind 4-3 win against Virginia (29-23) in the opening round of the NCAA Columbia Regional.
The Gamecocks trailed 3-1 before scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Colin Burgess had the go-ahead RBI single with two outs, scoring Josiah Sightler from second base. The Gamecocks are now 4-0 all time against the Cavaliers.
The Gamecocks will face the winner of top-seeded Old Dominion (42-14) and 4th-seeded Jacksonville (16-32) on Saturday night. First pitch is set for 7 PM ET at Founders Park.
