Rebels Follow Elko’s Monster Day to Start SEC Play at 6-0 for First Time Since 1969

#3 Ole Miss baseball improved to 6-0 to start SEC play for the first time since 1969 with an 11-6 win over #23 Alabama at Sewell-Thomas Stadium Saturday. With the sweep, the Rebels start SEC Play at 6-0 for the first time since 1969.

Tim Elko continued his outstanding season, leading the Rebels at the plate with a 4-for-5 day with a double, a home run and 5 RBI. Justin Bench, Jacob Gonzalez and TJ McCants all turned in multi-hit days with two apiece, while Bench and John Rhys Plumlee joined Elko with multiple RBI.

On the mound, starter Derek Diamond turned in a solid outing, going 6.0 innings with 3 runs allowed in 6 hits and 3 walks with 6 strikeouts. Austin Miller, Wes Burton and Josh Mallitz combined to close it out, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits and no walks over 3.0 innings of work.
