In the postgame press conference last night, a reporter asked LSU head football coach Ed Orgeron if anyone had ever thrown a shoe in a game he’s won. “No,” Orgeron chuckled. “I don’t think I’ve ever been in a game where an opponent threw the shoe, to be honest with you.”
Florida defensive back Marco Wilson was penalized late in the 4th quarter after he threw the shoe of LSU tight end Kole Taylor, which had ended up in his hands following a 3rd down stop.
That 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty kept a late LSU drive alive, and the Tigers were able to take a 37-34 lead with 23 seconds to go when kicker Cade York drilled a 57-yard field goal through the uprights at a foggy Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, which proved to be the game winner.
LSU head coach Ed Orgeron further addressed that play, and his Tigers’ big upset in The Swamp last night. Hear what he had to say right here. Video is courtesy of the SEC.
