WATCH: Southern Miss talks postgame about NCAA Regional opening round loss to Florida State

#3 seed Florida State belted 3 home runs to upend #2 seed and 20th-ranked Southern Miss 5-2 Friday afternoon in the opening game of the NCAA Oxford Regional at Swayze Field. The Golden Eagles (37-20) dropped its third-straight contest and will play the loser of the Ole Miss/Southeast Missouri State at 11 AM in a Saturday elimination game.

Southern Miss jumped out to an early advantage with a pair of runs in the opening inning. Gabe Montenegro started the game with a ground ball that went through the legs of FSU second baseman Jackson Greene. After a Reed Trimble single to right, Charlie Fischer laced a ball to third that ricocheted off the Seminole third baseman Logan Lacey for the second error of the inning and resulted in the first Golden Eagle run.
